Barnellan

Extension

A spectacular extension to a unique dwellinghouse outside Glasgow. The original dwellinghouse has been extended to provide a hardwood panelled vaulted ceiling lounge with a large picture window showing the fields beyond.

The extension is finished identically with the original dwellinghouse to achieve a seamless connection. The pitched roofs align perfectly with the existing bell-cast slate roof.

The 6 metre wide frameless window brings the garden into the house and blurs the indoor/outdoor distinction.

Hardwood-faced diamond shaped panels to the ceiling of the double-height extension were hand-cut and fixed by master carpenter Allan Leckie to ensure that the hip-junctions align precisely along the edges of the diamonds.

The extension is steel framed to permit the large glazed walls and vaulted ceiling design.
